Welcome back letter to parents... going home 1-9-17

Welcome Back!

I hope that your families enjoyed the holidays! We spent lots of time with family and enjoyed doing absolutely nothing :) A few reminders…

i started a class website that the kids use but I also blog on their about what’s going on and have uploaded pictures of activities that you can see there! https://graberj.wixsite.com/website We use seesaw a lot and I have 5-6 families that have not signed up.. Here is the information and your students post weekly (and more)

Please Sign Up Now

  1. Click on this link: https://app.seesaw.me/s/500-747-912

  2. Choose your child from the list

  3. Create your account

  4. Once I approve you, you can see content from your child

After you sign up, download the free Seesaw Family app and sign in. You can also access Seesaw from a computer at https://app.seesaw.me.

I also send reminders/notes on seesaw since it’s connected to your phone. I just started seesaw this year after using remind in the past. This is why i send messages on both. Sorry it’s confusing but that’s what happens when you start something new mid-year!

We will begin doing multiplication timed tests soon in class. It’s especially helpful if they are practicing at home and if they are not passing these timed tests, it will become a requirement to study at home with a signature from parents saying they did so. They can still access xtramath from my website. Most have their passwords memorized but if not they can write it down at school and take it home. I also advise getting multiplication flash cards. You can purchase them at most stores and are only $1 at the dollar store!

With half of our year being over already, most kids are in need of renewed supplies… lots of markers running out and crayons broken. Please check with your child and send new in, if you are able. If not let me know!

We are also in need of something for our classroom. If you are able please send them in! We have been so blessed this year with donations and it helps keep our classroom going! Here are some resources that we could use:

  • Hand sanitizer - small and large bottles - this is our biggest need right noW!!!!

  • Crayons

  • Markers

  • Ticonderoga pencils

  • Big pink erasers

  • Glue sticks

  • Black sharpies

  • Multiplication flash cards

  • Snack (nut free)

  • Lysol wipes

Reading - we will begin doing a reading log weekly now. New calendars are being sent home today. Reading and conversing with your child about their reading is essential we have testing coming up and research says the best things kids can do to prepare for standardized testing is to simply spend LOTS of time reading and discussing reading.

Istep - part 1 - February 26, 2018 - March 9, 2018

Part 2 – April 16, 2018 - May 4, 2018

IREAD-3 March 12, 2018 - March 16, 2018

Please avoid ANY reason that your child could miss school during these windows. Do not schedule appointments, vacations, etc.

As always contact me with any question, concerns about anything! I am here to do whatever i can to make your student’s the most successful that they can be. Remember to check the seesaw app and our website for updates :) ---Mrs. Graber
